Dr. Anish Goel is the Director of Geopolitical Affairs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and a noted expert on South Asia. In his current role, he leads geopolitical analysis, identifying emerging threats and opportunities, and their potential impact to Boeing’s commercial aviation business.

Anish joined Boeing after over nine years in the U.S. government working on South Asia foreign policy. Most recently, he served for three years in the White House’s National Security Council as Senior Director for South Asia, making him the senior-most advisor on South Asia to President Obama. Prior to joining the White House, Anish served in the U.S. State Department as the chief science and technology officer for South Asia, leading departmental efforts on the U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Cooperation Initiative.

As a Senior South Asia Fellow in New America’s International Security Program, Anish writes on U.S. foreign policy in South Asia, regional dynamics, and their implications for U.S. national security. He serves on the boards or advisory committees of several organizations, is a guest lecturer on international relations at the University of Washington, has appeared as an expert panelist for South Asia, and has written for Foreign Affairs, CNN, Foreign Policy, and the Hindustan Times.

A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Anish earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S.E. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. He and his wife currently reside in Seattle.
