Lisa Guernsey is Director of the Early Education Initiative and Director of the Learning Technologies Project, two projects in the Education Policy Program at New America. In both roles, Ms. Guernsey leads teams of writers and analysts to examine and generate ideas for new approaches that aim to help disadvantaged students succeed. A journalist by training, Ms. Guernsey has been a technology and education writer at The New York Times and The Chronicle of Higher Education and has contributed to several national publications, including NewsweekTime, The Washington Post, and USA TODAY. She also blogs occasionally at The Huffington Post and is on Twitter @LisaGuernsey. Ms. Guernsey’s most recent book is Screen Time: How Electronic Media – From Baby Videos to Educational Software – Affects Your Young Child (Basic Books, 2012).  She won a 2012 gold Eddie magazine award for a _School Library Journal _article on e-books, was a 2005 journalism fellow in the child and family policy program at the University of Maryland, and has served on several national advisory committees on early education.   She holds a master's degree in English/American Studies and a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Virginia.
