Sameer Lalwani

Research Fellow, International Security Program

Sameer Lalwani is a fellow with the International Security Program and a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he is an affiliate of the Security Studies Program. Mr. Lalwani studies U.S. grand strategy, military intervention, civil-conflict, civil-military relations, and national security decision making with a focus on the Middle East and South Asia.

Mr. Lalwani’s dissertation seeks to explain the sources of variation in counterinsurgency and consolidation strategies by post-colonial states. He has conducted field research in Pakistan and India and has received support from the Tobin Project and the MIT Entrepreneurship Center’s Carol Wilson Award. His work has been published The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy, DAWN, and CTC Sentinel. Previously, Mr. Lalwani spent three years as a policy analyst at New America and he holds a bachelor's degree in political science from University of California, Berkeley.
