Washington, DC — New America announced that Michael M. Crow, Arizona State University President, and Mohamed A. El-Erian, Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz and Chair of President Obama’s Global Development Council, have joined its Board of Directors.

“Talent and ideas are at the heart of New America,” said Eric Schmidt, New America Board Chair and Executive Chairman of Google. Inc. “It’s great to welcome two incredibly dynamic and innovative leaders to our Board of Directors and our community.”

Dr. Crow is an academic leader and educator, designer of knowledge enterprises, and science and technology scholar. He has been the sixteenth president of Arizona State University since July, 2002.

"Now more than ever, Washington needs sources of quality, dispassionate research and critical thinking about the challenges and opportunities facing our society," said Dr. Crow. “Arizona State has been a partner of New America in efforts to educate and inform the public and Washington policymakers on how technological change will affect society, and how we might influence technological change. I look forward to pressing forward with this mission.”

Dr. El-Erian is Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz, the corporate parent of PIMCO where he formerly served as chief executive and co-chief investment officer. He chairs President Obama’s Global Development Council. “I am delighted and honored to have been asked serve on the Board of New America,” said Dr. El-Erian. “It is an institution that I respect, that is full of talented colleagues and that continues to go from strength to strength.”

“I am thrilled that we will be joined by both Michael and Mohamed,” said Anne-Marie Slaughter, President and CEO of New America. “They are exactly the kinds of talented thinkers, leaders, and partners that help make New America the place it is.”
