Brigid Schulte
Fellow, Breadwinning and Caregiving Program
Brigid Schulte is currently a fellow in the Breadwinning and Caregiving Proram at New America. As a 2013 Schwartz Fellow at New America, Brigid Schulte researched and wrote a New York Times bestselling book on time pressure and modern families, Overwhelmed: Work, Love, and Play When Know One Has the Time. The book seeks to shift the national debate and perspective on the conflicting demands of work and life, and to open a dialogue on how we all can have time to do meaningful work, build relationships with family, friends and community, and, as the ancient Greeks said, "refresh the soul" in leisure - the place where we are most fully human.
Schulte is also a staff writer for The Washington Post. She was part of the newspaper's team covering the Virginia Tech massacre that won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news journalism. She has been a national correspondent in the Knight-Ridder Washington Bureau covering the military, national politics and health. She has a BA in English Literature from the University of Portland in Oregon and an MS from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
